Hands-on Solder Training
Course Description:
This course is perfect for those new to the electronics industry or anyone needing a quick 2-Day refresher. It offers a hands-on, 5-Day training focused on Electronics Assembly, ideal for new hires, recent grads, or those preparing for J-STD Workmanship Testing.

Course Topics:
Day 1 – Introduction to Electronic Assembly
- Reading gauges and calipers (standard vs. metric)
- Resistor color codes and MIL-STD-681
- Multimeter use (continuity, resistance, temperature)
- Safe handling of materials and chemicals (ESD)
- Solder types and flux identification
- Cleaner usage and tool care
Day 2 – Thru-Hole Assembly and Preparation
- Component prep (axial vs. radial) and polarity
- Bend radius, placement, and lead protrusion
- Component ID and reference designations
- Inspection: vertical fill, solder quality, polarity
Day 3 – Surface Mount Assembly
- SMD ID (SOT, SOIC, QFP, etc.)
- Orientation and polarity
- Placement techniques
- Inspection: bridging, insufficient/excess solder
Day 4 – Wire/Terminal Posts & Cable Assembly
- Reading schematics and fabrication drawings
- Wire ID and insulation types
- AWG, stranded vs. solid wire
- Wire stripping, prep, and routing
- Terminals: hook, turret, solder cup, cable routing
Day 5 – Rework
- Use of de-soldering stations and wick
- Destructive rework and maintaining board integrity
- Modifications (dead bug, trace cuts, pad isolation)
- Wire/cable splicing techniques
